What to expect at a health spa, and how you should behave!
1. You should be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire on arrival. This is good practice.
2. Clean towels, robes and footwear should be provided for you.
3. There should be secure locker facilities.
4. In UK spas, people normally wear swimsuits in the pool and around the spa, though in single-sex areas, such as saunas, people might remove their costumes – it’s a matter of choice.
5. For beauty treatments, wear a costume, your underwear or a towel – whatever you are most comfortable in. If in any doubt, ask the therapist what you should wear. They won’t be surprised to be asked and are not easily embarrassed!
6. Tell the spa operator if you are pregnant and check with your doctor what you intend to do and what treatments you intend to have before you go.
7. Mention any medical conditions, such as high or low blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease to the spa operator when you book your spa break. A trained resident medical practitioner should be on-hand for you to discuss your medical condition, or any therapeutic treatments.
8. Leave your jewellery at home. It might get in the way of treatments, and if you wear it in the spa pool it could get discoloured and spoilt.
